I once had a dream that I was standing near a dock with girls I had grown up with in the church.
As we stood there, chatting idly, the sun began to set. Instead of changing to night, however, the sky became more and more blood red.
Then, purple and white lightning ripped through the sky. We could feel the static in the air as the wind picked up and the waves crashed against the dock.
Finally, a...

"you're just angry."
Damn right, I am.
So, I’m aware that I rant incessantly about the dismissive attitude of Christians, but I want to address a particular phenomenon that falls ignorantly from people’s lips every single day.
“I’m sorry you met bad Christians.”
A few things.
First, you are that Christian. Every Christian is the Christian for which others must make that excuse....

Am I the only one who reads the church’s fears of disestablishment and the loss of ‘privileged position’ and think, “Rear your ugly, controlling face; you are only destroying yourself. Thank you,”?
Also, if ‘privileged...

"one of worst threats in 500 years"
Recently, the Church of England declared that the issue of Gay Marriage is one of the worst threats to the church in the last 500 years. You can read the article here.
Before I continue on, I’d like to quote an article from Rachel Held Evan’s blog:
Later research, documented in Kinnaman’s You Lost Me, reveals that one of the top reasons 59...

about a night last year when I walked out of church for the first time.
I’ve been sitting on this one for a while, partially because I wasn’t sure if it made any sense, but also because I was scared to show it to anyone. I’ve never talked about this kind of thing on Tumblr before because it’s such a touchy subject. But it’s Holy Week, and it seems relevant somehow.
I sent a...

a wrinkle in time
It’s interesting that what is forbidden is usually the most tantalizing.
For instance, I just discovered that Evangelical Christians fought to have ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ removed from school libraries. Anytime I hear that the far right has ‘protected’ their children, I’m always curious to know what exactly is so ‘dangerous’. So far, I’ve only...

things that are going to kill me
1. People who order lattes by saying, “Can I get…just a…coffee lahtty. Yeah. Coffee lahtty.”
2. Mayonnaise.
3. Cute things. Specifically: kittens. Sometimes puppies. Mostly kittens. Baby hedgehogs are a close third.
4. Having to sit through one more conversation of someone saying, “You cannot witness [something...

(So, unfortunately, changing my theme forced me to remove this image because it wouldn’t fit. Anyways, let’s use our imaginations. It was a picture of a billboard that read ‘Faith Reason is a virtue.’ It was sponsored by a local atheist group.)

who is Jesus?
A few weeks ago, I used Amazon’s ‘one click’ to purchase Everything Belongs by Richard Rohr. I had been contemplating getting this book for a while, and when I saw that it was under ten bucks, I went ahead and nabbed it.
One problem - it shipped to the wrong address.
I was supposed to receive the book on May 9th; instead, I received it on May 21st.

Weird statement:
Something in me knows me better than I know myself.
When someone first pointed it out to me, I told them they were wrong. Mistaken.
And then someone else mentioned the same thing.
And again, and again.
One night, while driving home with my roommate, it burst forth. How I really felt. What I had attempted to fix.
I found myself attempting to articulate it to my...
This was going to be 'Straight to Hell, No. 3',
But then I realized that I am full shit. So, until I figure that out, I’m posting this instead.
Things that I weirdly find life in:
1. Soundtracks from 90’s movies. City of Angels, the Beach, Brokedown Palace, etc. I don’t know what it is, but when I listen to them, I feel like I’ve found something that sounds like home. Weird.
2. Writing with a pencil occasionally....
